When Animal Crossing creator Shigeru Miyamoto was asked about the game’s many anime hairstyle choices, he said he was trying to make a “character-driven world,” but he also pointed out that, while he was inspired by the likes of the popular manga series, there was also a lot of inspiration from anime and manga.
In an interview with Kotaku, Miyamoto said he wanted to keep the world as natural as possible and didn’t think that any anime hairstylists or designers would be able to replicate that look.
“I thought it would be a little bit difficult to replicate what you see in anime and then have some anime hairstiers that you could emulate,” Miyamoto told Kotaku.
“That’s why I was really looking for a stylist.
I thought, ‘Well, if there’s an anime hairstyler, why don’t I give them some ideas?
I think I’ll give them ideas.'”
The results of this search for a “good anime hairstyrk” were not pretty.
When we asked Miyamoto about the hairstyles that were popular on the Japanese version of the game, he gave a few examples, including a style that looked like it could only be found in the “Japanese” version of Animal Crossing.
“There’s no way to get that one in the Japanese versions,” Miyota said.
“You can’t get it in the American versions.”
However, Miyota did mention that, when asked if he was looking for “a style from the Japanese” in the future, Miyomoto said, “It’s something I think we could do.”
